As an amateur wedding photographer, I have been frustrated by the poor performance of AA Alkaline cells in my camera's electronic flash. Using fresh alkaline cells, I can get acceptable performance for the first couple of rolls of film. But as the batteries heat up with use, performance begins dropping as the flash takes longer and longer to recycle. I eventually swap out four fresh cells in order to keep shooting. For my needs, 10-15 seconds between shots is simply unacceptable performance -- not to mention the cost of new batteries, lost shooting opportunities, and needless stress.

I began a search for a better power solution in my camera. In the beginning, I considered bulky rechargeable battery packs. Although very powerful, they're expensive, cumbersome, and would void my flash's warranty. I was interested, but ultimately wanted something simpler and easier to work with.  

Before long, I discovered Nickel-Metal Hydride AA rechargeable batteries. Lightweight, powerful, and relatively inexpensive, (not to mention rechargeable hundreds of times,) they seemed like a perfect match. But which brand, as there are hundreds of "no-name" rechargeable batteries to choose from. Which to choose?
